It’s no secret that Sri Lanka has some of the finest tea in the world. Ceylon tea has been a pillar of Sri Lankan culture, heritage & identity. At Lakdiva, quality means everything — from the quality of our tea & spices to the quality of life, we aim to promote sustainable livelihoods, safe working conditions & protect the communities we are a part of. What Lakdiva runs on today is years of working diligently in the field at each stage of tea production, & decades of experience passed down from generation to generation.
To us, tea is more than just business. It’s our pride.
Our Story
Over 50 years ago, M Thaha growing up in the upcountry, spent a lot of time outdoors in the lush greenery of his family fields. Growing plants & herbs, he developed a passion for tea. A hobby that turned into a vision, M Thaha expanded his business to manufacturing in order to have full control over the quality of tea that reached his customers.
His son, MTM Ameen, inherited his father's passion & learnt as much as he could from his father & came to build & run more than five tea factories & estates successfully. His son after him, MA Aasif Ahamed, continued their vision & dream by taking a step further & opened Lakdiva Tea Centre in the heart of Colombo allowing him to share his family legacy with not only the local market but the international. As such we're able to cover the whole supply chain of tea from tea-plucking, manufacturing, processing, value addition & packaging to distribution.
Now over three generations, Lakdiva has expanded to growing & selling pure Ceylon spices such as cinnamon & chili. We are proud to have grown from only a single estate in the upcountry to a one-stop shop for the highest quality premium tea & spices in the busiest area in the country.

Green tea, considered one of the world's healthiest drinks, contains one of the highest amounts of antioxidants of any tea which are known to protect the body against disease.
At Lakdiva we offer two types of supreme green teas: Gunpowder & Oolong.
Being named after its leaves that have the appearance of pellets used in classic shotguns, Ceylon Gunpowder Tea is a popular variant of Green Tea produced in Sri Lanka. It creates a strong liquor leaving you with a full-bodied cup with a slightly over-fired feel.
Oolong tea is an incredibly healthy tea. These include benefits for heart, brain, bone & dental health. In addition, it may boost your metabolism, decrease your risk of developing type-2 diabetes & protect against certain types of cancer.
Naturally Flavoured Tea
Tea is referred to as flavoured if it has a supplementary taste and/ or aromas added to it. Flavouring is done to satisfy diverse tastes & provide enticing aromas.
At Lakdiva, we offer a range of flavours of naturally flavoured tea, from fruits to flowers to spices. Dried pieces & fragments of flowers, fruit, herbs or spices can be found in each tea, adding flavour & aroma to it.
Pearl of Ocean, a blend unique to Lakdiva, is the highest-selling tea in this range. This tea is a healthy mixture of both black & green tea, blended with pieces of fruits & flowers, creating a unique taste packed with flavour.
Flavoured Tea Infusions
Similar to our Naturally Flavored Tea range this range is also naturally flavoured. However, instead of having pieces of fruit herbs and spices, these teas are thoroughly blended & infused with these extracts.
Exclusive Black Tea
Our Exclusive Black Tea comes in two types: Extra Special & Supreme.
Extra Special, an attractive & premium tea grade in black tea category FFEXSP (Flowery Fanning Extra Special) is selected from the Higher Mountain Tea Gardens of Sri Lanka. This tea is a
leafy & well-twisted larger-sized tea, giving off a fragrant aroma & creates a bright, luscious, golden hue in your cup.
The Supreme blend is a superior tea that every tea lover should definitely experience. The strength & thickness of this tea is deep & intense which is unusual for traditional teas. Similar to its taste, it gives a very strong rich aroma.

White Tea is made from unopened buds & occasionally the first shoot of the plant & has a delicate colour & sweet flavour.
Also known as 'golden tips' or 'silver tips', tea tips are the small, unopened leaves of the tea plant. Golden Tips Tea & Silver Tips tea are highly sought-after exotic grades of Ceylon White Tea that have been sourced off a tea garden in the Kandy region of the Sri Lankan hill country.
Regional Tea
Ceylon tea continues to be regarded as the best tea in the world. However, due to regional & weather conditions, the flavour & aroma of the tea grown in each district tend to be exquisitely different from one another.
The remote Uva District is exposed to the winds of both North East & South West Monsoons. This is believed to endow the tea produced here with a unique, unmistakable character & exotically aromatic flavour. It was with tea grown on his Uva Estates that Thomas Lipton, the Victorian Magnate, persuaded Americans to taste the smooth, mellow flavour of Uva tea which once experienced, is easily distinguished.
With Lakdiva's Regional Tea Range, we allow tea lovers to encompass & experience the finest tastes & textures from around the country.
